Augusto Villanueva is the Medical Director of the Liver Cancer Program at NYU Langone Health in New York. He earned his medical degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. His previous roles include Associate Professor in the Division of Liver Diseases at Mount Sinai Hospital and Senior Lecturer and Consultant Hepatologist at the Institute of Liver Studies at King’s College Hospital in London. Dr. Villanueva is a NIH-funded physician-scientist whose work integrates clinical practice as a hepatologist with research aimed at elucidating the role of intratumor heterogeneity in cancer evolution and developing innovative minimally invasive biomarkers through liquid biopsy. He has authored over 165 publications, accumulating more than 33,000 citations and an H-index of 76. His works have been featured in prestigious journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Genetics, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Communications, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology, Gut, Journal of Clinical Investigation, and Oncogene.
