My background in both HPB and Transplant Surgery has been homed in both India and the United Kingdom. I have been a consultant for over 22 years, initially as a Consultant in Transplant and HPB Surgery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Leeds, in 2002 and subsequently moved to King’s College Hospital, London in 2013 where I continue to work currently.
My specialist interest has been in transplant oncology, fatty liver disease and associated liver cancer. I also have a major interest in advanced hepatobiliary techniques, introduced laparoscopic major hepatectomy using 3D techniques at King’s and contributed to European Consensus Meetings in Liver and Pancreatic surgery. I also chaired the National Working Group on Liver Transplantation for Unresectable Colorectal Liver Metastases. I have over 140 peer reviewed publications, two significant ones that changed clinical practice and delivered over 300 lectures worldwide.
I have a strong track record in Academic leadership, Education and Training and have been Past President of the Great Britain Chapter of the IHPBA (GBIHPBA) and immediate past President of the British Transplantation Society (BTS). I was invited in 2021 by the UK Secretary of Health, through the Director of NHSE, on to the ‘Organ Utilisation Group’, a National Committee, to improve organ utilisation in the UK and following on, I am on the Panel for the ‘Implementation Steering Group for Organ Utilisation (ISOU).
