Burcin Ekser, MD, PhD is a Professor of Surgery and Surgical Director of Liver Transplant at Loyola University Medical Center. His research on xenotransplantation, xenoimmunology, 3D organ bioprints, and 3D liver models (organoids) has been funded by NIH and other extramural agencies. He is a good-standing member of many societies including, TTS, IXA, AST, ASTS, ESOT, ILTS, and AASLD. He served as the chair of many committees in the abovementioned societies. He currently serves as the chair of the Vanguard Committee of the ASTS, co-chair of the ISLS Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation-Basic Science Study Group. He is involved in scientific program development for TTS, IXA, ILTS, ATC, and ASTS Winter Symposium as the Chair. He has published >210 peer-reviewed scientific articles and holds several patents. He serves as the Deputy Editor of the International Journal of Surgery, and Editor-in-Chief of Health Sciences Review and Surgery Case Reports: Advances and Techniques. He was the recipient of the 2022 Rising Star in Transplantation Surgery Award of the ASTS and the 2022 TTS International Transplantation Science Mentor Award.
