Dr. Goldaracena is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto, with dual appointments at the Hospital for Sick Children, and at UHN, Division of General Surgery. Dr. Goldaracena completed his general surgery residency at the Hospital Alemán of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Following an initial HPB and Transplant Surgery fellowship at the Hospital Alemán of Buenos Aires, Argentina, he joined in 2013 the Hepatic Reperfusion Injury and Organ Preservation Laboratory in Toronto, Canada where he completed a 2-year research fellowship gaining expertise in this field. Dr. Goldaracena then completed in 2017 an additional 2-year clinical fellowship in Abdominal Organ Transplantation and HPB Surgical Oncology at the University of Toronto. During his time in Toronto, he received special training in LDLT, pediatric LT and complex HPB surgery and was recruited in 2019 to the University of Virginia, USA as the surgical director of the LDLT program and the surgical director of the pediatric LT program, positions that he held until being recruited back to Toronto.
Dr. Goldaracena's clinical interests focus on LD hepatectomy, LDLT, pediatric LT, as well as complex HPB surgery. Dr. Goldaracena's research is focused on clinical outcomes involving adult and pediatric LT. He has a special interest in increasing the organ donor pool and reducing mortality on the LT wait list by means of LDLT. In addition, his areas of interest also include research on LD safety, and the outcomes and access to transplantation of adult and pediatric patients suffering from primary or metastatic liver cancer.
