Professor Albert Chan

Introduction to Histotripsy: The HKU Experience in Liver

Dr. Chan will introduce Histotripsy and discuss MOA followed by his personal experience in HKU.

Professor Albert Chan MBBS (Lond), MS(HK), FRCS(Edin), FCSHK, FHKAM(Surgery) Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation Professor in Surgery; Deputy Chief of Service, Department of Surgery, Queen Mary Hospital; Director, Liver Transplant Center, Queen Mary Hospital; Chief, Division of Liver Transplant, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery; Department of Surgery - The University of Hong Kong

Professor Chan is Director of the Liver Transplant Center at Queen Mary Hospital and Chief of Liver Transplant in the Division of Liver Transplant, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. He specializes in living donor liver transplantation and complex liver, pancreatic, and biliary cancer surgery. Internationally recognized for his pioneering work in ALPPS, he performed the world’s first pediatric ALPPS for hepatoblastoma and has one of the largest personal experiences in ALPPS for liver cancer. He has held leadership roles in major surgical societies, including the Asian Surgical Association, ILTS, IHPBA, and A-PHPBA. Professor Chan has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and secured more than HKD $80 million in research funding. He serves on the editorial boards of *Annals of Surgery* and *Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Diseases International*.

Dr. Abou-Khalil, MD, MSc (Epi)
Dr. Abou-Khalil completed his medical school and residency at McGill University in Montreal before pursuing fellowship training in Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery at Seattle’s Virginia Mason Medical Center. As a Hepatobiliary surgeon he is primarily interested in the surgical treatment of diseases of the liver, pancreas and biliary tree and has a special interest in laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques. Armed with a master’s degree in epidemiology, Dr. Abou-Khalil’s research focuses on surgical outcomes and the use of “big data” to address and inform questions relating to the care of surgical patients, specifically those undergoing surgery of the liver, pancreas and biliary tree.

Precision in Practice: Advancing Hepatobiliary Surgery with Robotic and CUSA Ultrasonic Innovation

Please join Integra for an immersive technology suite designed specifically for hepatobiliary surgeons, featuring two cutting-edge surgical platforms: the da Vinci Surgical System and CUSA® Clarity Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator
This hands-on, surgeon-led experience will highlight the synergy between robotic-assisted precision and ultrasonic tissue resection in complex liver procedures.
Attendees will explore key workflow efficiencies, gain tactile experience in simulated environments, and engage in high-level discussions on clinical outcomes, indications, and case strategies. Ideal for surgeons seeking to push the boundaries of minimally invasive hepatobiliary surgery.
